Hockey Talk: Post-NHL Draft Edition

Welcome to the first edition of Susi's Hockey Talk! Here I'll just spitball some thoughts and bad takes :)

Red Wings Draft Picks: General Thoughts

I won't pretend to be an expert on prospects of draft picks, so here's my first impressions:

A lot of people are calling this pick a reach, and I can see why. In my opinion, it would've mad more sense to swap the two first round picks. However, since we got both of them anyway, I don't know if it matters too much...

Danielson seems to have done well in the WHL, so I am looking forward to seeing what he does in the future! Don't quote me on this, but I seem to recall us needing a RHC, so go Nate!

Sandin-Pellikka seems like a classic Yzerman pick! I think it is a little unfortunate that he will be over in Sweden for the next season, but perhaps that will be good for his development.

More importantly, though... he's got a great hockey name! :)

I won't even try to pretend I'm not thrilled about this pick. Augustine has put up really impressive performances for the USNTDP - including one I've seen in person :) - and he'll be a great addition to the Wings' severe lack of goalie prospects.

On a personal note - Augustine will be playing at MSU, and as someone who gets to see that IRL - I'm super excited to see how it goes!

Gibson seems like a pretty solid dman. I won't say any more because I don't know much about him, but I do think it is very sweet that he and Trey are friends :) I wonder if these types of connections will make for a theoretical better dman-goalie connection on the ice?

Cleveland also seems solid, and a defensively minded dman. I'm curious to see how he does at the University of Wisconsin!

No real comments other than to say it is wonderful that he got drafted to the same team that his brother did :)

Okay, it's pretty obvious I don't really have anything to say of substance, so I'll cut myself off here. I'll be keeping an eye on Development Camp news, so hopefully I'll have something worth saying then! I'll be real, I just wanted to get something down to encourage me to continue working on this website... :')
